We’ve gathered answers to some of the questions we hear most often from pet owners and referring veterinarians. For procedure-specific information, please visit our surgical service pages or contact our team directly.
No. While many of our patients are referred by their primary veterinarian, pet owners are welcome to contact us directly to discuss their pet’s condition and determine whether a consultation is appropriate.
During your consultation, we will review your pet’s medical history, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and any previous treatments. We will discuss available surgical and non-surgical options, answer your questions, and create a treatment plan tailored to your pet’s individual needs.
Boreal Animal Surgery operates primarily as an outpatient surgical center. In most cases, pets return home the same day to recover in a familiar and comfortable environment. If additional monitoring or hospitalization is recommended, we will discuss those options with you before surgery.
Recovery times vary depending on the procedure, your pet’s age, overall health, and activity level. We provide detailed recovery instructions and ongoing support to help ensure the best possible outcome. You can also visit our individual surgical service pages for procedure-specific recovery information.
Prior to surgery our team will discuss recovery from the procedure. After surgery we’ll contact you when your pet is ready to go home. Depending on the procedure your pet may be on pain meds and/or sedatives. You’ll be sent home with detailed instructions on what to expect based on the surgery and the medication. You’ll also receive emergency contact information, aftercare instructions, medication timing, etc.
For orthopedic procedures, Boreal Animal Surgery partners with Arthrex Vet Systems to provide industry-leading implants and instrumentation. These implants are trusted by veterinary surgeons around the world and are supported by evidence-based surgical techniques designed to promote long-term success.
For direct payment we accept debit, credit, and cash. We also work with CareCredit and Cherry to provide financing options. If your pet has insurance we will provide all necessary documentation for you to complete your claim. For more details visit our financing page.
Many family veterinarians perform surgical procedures as part of their practice and provide excellent care for their patients. However, some conditions are more complex and may benefit from the additional training, experience, and specialized equipment of a board-certified veterinary surgeon.
Board-certified surgeons complete several years of advanced surgical training beyond veterinary school, including a dedicated residency and a rigorous certification process focused exclusively on orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.
At Boreal Animal Surgery, we work in partnership with your family veterinarian, not in place of them. From consultation through surgery and recovery, we maintain open communication with your primary care team and return your pet to their ongoing care once treatment is complete.
Our shared goal is simple: to provide the highest standard of surgical care while ensuring your pet receives the right treatment, at the right time, from the right team.
At Boreal Animal Surgery, we believe every pet deserves access to compassionate, high-quality surgical care. Whether you’ve been referred by your veterinarian or are exploring treatment options on your own, our team is here to help.
From consultation to recovery, you’ll receive personalized attention, expert care, and the support of a team that treats your pet like family.
